#2 to Ms. Steffens' 4th grade class

Hello!! It looks like you are learning a lot with Ms. Steffens! I have only 3 more weeks here in the Galapagos until I return to Iowa! Here are the answers to your questions:
Have you seen any more dead sea lions?
I saw a baby sea lion that had died. There are a lot of baby sea lions now because it is the birthing season! Most all of them live and are so little!
Is the water cold?
Yes, the ocean here is chilly! However, the ocean currents are starting to change and the water is becoming warmer. A lot more fish and sharks like to live in cold water!
Does the temperature get in the 100's?
No, I don't think so. There is no weather man on the island though! We never know what the weather is going to do or how hot it will be. It is okay here though because the weather doesn't change as much as it does in Iowa. The temperature is usually in the 80's everyday, but it is starting to get hotter as the seasons change. The rainy season is starting, so it rains about every night now!
Have you seen any monkeys?
There are no monkey's on the Galapagos Islands, but I did see some in the Amazon Rainforest. I spent one week in the rainforest before coming to the Galapagos Islands.
Have you seen any kittens?
Yes there are a lot of kittens here. Kittens are not a natural animal on the Galapagos though, so people who own them have to take really good care of them. Some cats have killed birds that are only found on the Galapagos islands and no where else in the world. They have to make sure their cats stay in or around the house.

I hope you are enjoying school!
Jenny
